Developed in collaboration with the
United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California EPA Department of Toxic Substances Control, the Bay Area Green Business Program is a partnership of government agencies and utilities that helps local businesses comply with environmental regulations and take actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution and minimize waste. Approximately 1,500 businesses and public agencies have been certified since 1997.
As part of its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility, NEC Electronics America maintains three ISO 14001:2004-conformant environmental management systems, one at its Santa Clara headquarters, another at its wafer fab in Roseville (California) and a third at its sales office and design center in Irving (Texas). Activities are focused on decreasing energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, waste generation and paper usage while increasing recycling efforts, the use of green products and employee awareness of environmental conservation.
Employees are continually reminded to conserve energy and reduce waste through a variety of programs, including regular environmental tips, company-hosted events that allow employees to volunteer for environmental activities in their local communities during business hours, and an annual environmental fair that enables employees to dispose of home e-waste for free and talk to representatives from a variety of local businesses about how to go green.
