Viewers can tune in to watch the impressive aerial feats performed by top teams, including the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team and the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights. A special performance by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels is also part of the FREE-For-View broadcast.
The airshow took place at the Barksdale Air Force Base, which is one of only four active numbered air force bases in Air Combat Command and is the new home of Cyber Command. The base celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and marked the occasion with highly-anticipated performances from Greg Poe, MIG 17 & Vintage War Birds and other first-class acts. This was NFT's second year broadcasting the event live over the Internet.
NFT's unique video broadcasting solution incorporates a customizable, downloadable player that broadcasts content directly to the viewer's computer desktop. All this week, fans can watch the online feed by going to the Barksdale Air Force site and downloading NFT's NiFTy TV player.
With the ability to reach large, geographically diverse audiences at a fraction of the bandwidth cost of other online broadcasting technologies, NFT's platform is a viable solution for many content providers who want to deliver high quality, live television-style programming that is free of charge to viewers. "(NFT's) webcast technology has had significant impact on our air show by allowing us to reach a much broader audience here at home and worldwide," said Lt. Col. Russell E. Maclean, the Defenders of Liberty Open House and Air show director.
"This is Network Foundation Technologies' second year broadcasting the Barksdale air show. This popular event draws many online viewers who tune in to watch the phenomenal stunts and performances. With our technology, Barksdale is able to reach fans at home or troops abroad, and provide them with an action-packed broadcast for free," said Dr. Mike O'Neal, founder and chief scientist of NFT. "We are thrilled to make such exciting content so widely available."
NFT's distributed broadcast model avoids the pitfalls inherent in peer-to-peer file sharing systems by enabling the distribution of live content, eliminating the need to store data on each viewer's hard drive, and limiting use of Internet connections to only those time periods when the viewer is actively tuned to a program. This patented technology builds and maintains a highly stable broadcast network by using the turnover inherent in distributed networks to drive the most reliable active connections to the most critical regions of the network, ensuring that quality of service remains high. By never requiring any computer in the network to retransmit more than two copies of the broadcast stream, the network can continue expanding while keeping bandwidth costs low and controlled.
NFT's emerging presence in the world of sports and events is strong. The company has ongoing partnerships with top sports leagues such as arenafootball2, USA Weightlifting, USA Judo and the Central Hockey League.
